SUMMARY

  • Massive Hiring Spree: Amazon plans to recruit 250,000 U.S. workers for the holiday frenzy.
  • Payday Boost: Hourly wages to range from $17 to $28 with enticing sign-on bonuses.
  • Steady Growth: Amazon's average hourly pay sees a climb amidst a backdrop of labor discussions.

Amazon dropped some exciting news for job seekers this week, announcing their plans to onboard a whopping 250,000 employees across the U.S. Why? To smoothly sail through the tidal wave of holiday shopping, of course!

Every year around this festive time, the e-commerce giant sees a spike in orders and they traditionally ramp up their team. But this year's hiring numbers are outdoing their past records - last year they added 150,000 to the ranks for the festive period.

And there's more: not only will they be hiring full-timers, but also part-timers and those looking for seasonal gigs in both warehouse and delivery roles. Thinking about the paycheck? Amazon's breaking some more good news. Hourly wages for these roles will oscillate between $17 to $28, sweetened further with sign-on bonuses ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 in certain locales.

So, where does the average wage stand now? Warehouse and delivery staff can expect an average of $20.50 per hour, a jump from the previous $19. It seems Amazon has been listening to its workforce as it steadily amplifies the starting pay. There have been murmurs from workers about organizing and concerns raised by various parties regarding safety standards. But with this current pay enhancement, in some prime spots, workers might pocket as much as $28 per hour.

Interestingly, Amazon trails only behind Walmart in the race for America's largest employer. As of the close of Q2, Amazon boasts an impressive roster of roughly 1.46 million employees scattered across the globe.
